It seems strange to be dropping as much oil in a car between oil changes as it does at oil changes. This article will cover some of the things you need to be aware of and which Audi specified to fix the issue.

One thing about Audi engines, you MUST use the OEM oil filters or exact equivalent to assure that you don't get funny lifter noises. Apparently, some off-brand oil filters aerate the oil, and the they can be two year plus intervals and over 20k apart, from Audi’s point of view, if it gets past the 100k/10 year mark it’s not really their problem. In my opinion and many others, oil is well spent by this time, causing more harm than good, it could be a very good contributor for the oil pump sludge issues too. Audi, BMW, and Subaru stick firmly to the statement that oil consumption is a normal part of a car’s operation. Subaru considers a quart burned every 1,000 to 1,200 miles to be acceptable. Certain Audi and BMW cars’ standards state that a quart burned every 600 to 700 miles is reasonable. Audi Thinks Excessive Oil Consumption is Fine engine. Early Gen1 3.0T engines may have an older style oil pressure switch, which can fail, causing a fault for the high oil pressure circuit in the engine, preventing operation above 4,000 RPM’s. There is an updated switch available, designated as F22, and is purple in color. This pressure switch is buried under the wiring harness, secondary air pipes, and O2 sensor wiring on the Note that the Audi specification for the 2.0 engines allows for a quart of oil to be used every 1,000 miles, and they will not consider this level of usage to be a fault. This is written in the manual if you look in the section on oil. However, many 2.0 TFSI owners routinely get only around 500-600 miles, which is definitely out of spec. (Other engines may have different specifications, please check your manual to confirm) • Oil use may increase with engine wear over time, until replacement of worn engine parts may become necessary. Audi recommends checking the engine oil level at every fill-up, and always before a long trip. See your dealer or reference your Audi Owner’s Manual for the proper procedure to check the oil level.
